Apple unveils new 11- and 13-inch iPad Air with M2 chip
Apple is updating its iPad lineup, introducing new models for the first time in over two years. The key addition to the new iPad Air is the availability in two sizes: 11 and 13 inches. While the display remains LED, those looking for an OLED display will need to opt for the iPad Pro.
"For the first time ever, iPad Air comes in two sizes: a redesigned 11-inch Air and the spectacular all-new 13-inch Air," said John Ternus, SVP, Hardware Engineering.
Ternus used the event to position the iPad Air in between the basic iPad model and the iPad Pro, offering more features without the same level of performance as the Pro. The iPad Air supports the second-generation Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard.
"iPad Air is designed to deliver advanced features pioneered on iPad Pro and make them available and even more affordable," Ternus added.
The device now runs on Apple's M2 chip instead of the M1 chip. It also supports Wi-Fi 6E and optional 5G connectivity.
The cameras have been repositioned for a more natural feel in landscape mode, both featuring 12MP sensors. The iPad Air is available in blue, purple, starlight, and space gray color options.
In addition to the base 128GB model starting at $599 ($799 for the 13-inch option), customers can now choose from 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options without needing to upgrade to an iPad Pro.
The new iPad Air models are open for preorders and will be released next week.
